Nervous about how to set up your classroom advisory? Not sure where to start?

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a new or seasoned teacher. Every educator needs a moment to pause, plan, and reflect on how to make the new academic year a success or a doozy.

The way you set up your homeroom will set the tone for each day AND the rest of the year, as long as you’re consistent. It doesn’t even need a lot of planning, just consistency and a positive tone.

Consider the following ideas:

1. A smile / a nod of acknowledgment / ‘Hi <student_name>, how’s it going? Watch the basketball game last night? Hey <student_name>, how’s your brother feeling now?

2. A daily word activity, math problem, or a riddle on the board. There are literally a gazillion resources you can find online for this one. You could take inspiration from the free online games provided by the ‘New York Times’ such as Wordle or Spelling Bee for starters.
